Stylizer

We're Hiring Developers That Truly Understand Software Engineering

The Accelerator Building,
Skybound's Waterloo location.

The last time you had to work fight with HTML & CSS, did you ever think something like...

"Man, I wish I could just draw whatever I wanted on the screen in a design tool that didn't suck, and have that turned into HTML & CSS--that also didn't suck."

You're not alone. We're the creators of a very successful and thought-provoking CSS IDE called Stylizer. We're well aware that most web designers, developers, and many non-technical people just want HTML & CSS to die an expedient death (or at least written by super-intelligent technology).

And that's what you'll be accomplishing. Changing the world.

We're currently laying the groundwork to execute on this dream, which is based on years of research done at the University of Waterloo Research & Technology Park. We'll be basing our hiring decision on 5 core things:

1 - Intelligence
We're hiring programmers. You had better be able to program. We'll test your algorithm writing smarts, as well as your theoretical background around stuff like vtables, AOP, functional languages, static analysis, etc.

2 - Drive
In the interview, you'll need to do more than just say "I have drive" or "I am focused". You'll need to show indisputable proof.

3 - Adaptable
At Skybound, we do things different. Seriously different. For example, we spend almost as much time in ideation & design as in engineering. We'll be coding in a custom programming language, which will be compiled with a new type of compiler. Our UI is built on a fully custom, cross-platform, cross-device UI framework. Our unconventional approach to software creation is what has made us successful. To be effective at Skybound, you must embrace our tendency to continually violate convention, versus object with reasons why we should just do things like everyone else.

4 - Personable
Are you going to jump at the opportunity to go out after work with the team, and meet new people? Or are you going to spend your evenings & weekends with the same people you've known for years? We're looking for people in the first category.

5 - Minimalist
At Skybound, minimalism is king, in everything from our products, to the internal tools that we use, to the way our office looks. Anything remotely considered "bloated" is avoided like the plague. If we need to explain ourselves here, you're probably not a good candidate.

Why Work For Us?

  • We'll fit you with a 27" iMac (your choice of Windows or OS X), and any other hardware you need to kick ass.
  • We will pay you what you would make at any of the big tech companies.

How To Apply
Email with a few short bullet points that outline the most impressive things you've done in your life as a developer. If we're impressed, we'll open your resume if it's attached.
